The final product that was produced was at a good standard
in appearance although the wheels and axles could have been improved to reduce
rolling resistance. Time was managed
well but in the last 3 weeks leading up to the due date I could have been more
productive and should have stayed more focused on producing a higher standard
car.
I changed the colour
of the paint a number of times and tried new designs but I should have stuck
with my first idea which was an orange car with black wheels which the car did
end up looking like. With taking into account the designs of F1 cars and land
speed record cars I was able to design the car that I thought would have a very
low drag coefficient with the use of
virtual wind tunnels and look reasonably good. One improvement that I could
have done was to apply a clear coat of varnish to the car before painting it so
the paint would be applied to a smooth surface which would achieve a smoother
and glossier finish.
Overall I am quite impressed with my performance in this
assignment and the quality of the car that I produced. I managed to problem
solve when things didn't go as planned (when the milling machine cut randomly
into the block) and improvised so time wouldn't be wasted and the best possible
finish would be achievable.
